For my city picture, I decided that I need to take pictures of buildings that everyone would typically associate with a city. Therefore, I went down near the Albert Docks to take a picture of these tall-futuristic-looking buildings. I also decided to take my picture during the daytime to ensure that the focus of the image I was going for (which is the buildings was clearly visible. I didn’t do too much in photoshop to change this image, as I didn’t want to change my image away from my vision I had for the result. Therefore, I added 25 brightness to bring up the dull areas of the image, and I added 50+ contrast to ensure that the image was sharp, and I finally added 25+ to my Hue and Saturation to make the colours pop out more and therefore make the image more appealing.

Firstly, I wanted to make my image look more appealing at first to ensure that when I made my image look grittier, it looked more associated with the gritty theme. Therefore, I added 50+ contrast, 50+ brightness and 25+ Hue and Saturation. My favourite effect here was the Hue and Saturation since it allowed the grittiest details such as the moss of the picture to really stand out and make my picture theme even more clear. Then I followed a tutorial on YouTube to make the gritty detail.

Even before I took my loneliness picture, I instantly knew what I needed to add to my image to ensure that my image is authentic to the loneliness theme. Firstly, I knew I didn’t want anyone else near where I was taking the photo since having just myself in the photograph ensured that there was a sense of isolation within the photograph. Also, to strength the sense of isolation effect, I made sure that nobody else’s belongings were in the photograph to indicate that I was the only one within the room. Finally, I decided to add the black and white overlay to allow my image to represent sadness which is often related to loneliness. To achieve this black and white effect I went to Image > Adjustments > Black and White balance.
